The art of Bononcini's cello, revealed by one of Italy's most gifted artists, is not limited to his brother Giovanni. The study of solo cello music for low strings in Italy from the 17th to the early 18th century, before the standard form of the modern "cello" was established, is one of the areas of particular interest. Here, Marco Ceccato, one of the most prolific and gifted musicians in the low register of the Italian classical music world, will be joined by Anna Fontana, a core member of Re Incogniti, and Simone Vallerotonda, a renowned member of the versatile string repellent group I Bassifondi, in a performance of cello music that has recently begun to reveal more and more of the secrets of the cello music of the past. The Bononcini brothers' cello music world, which has been unraveling in recent years, will be introduced in detail. Giovanni Bononcini, the elder of the two brothers, was active in London as Handel's rival in later years, but in fact he was a precocious genius who dominated the Italian music scene in the 17th century.His younger brother, Antonio Maria, was just as gifted as his older brother, and although he died early, he was selected by the imperial court in Vienna, and his works were published in London as well. The brothers were from Modena, a major center of string art, and the elder brother was a cellist of great skill, but until recently the only known cello work of his was an A minor sonata published after his death. This disc is also very attractive in that we can enjoy two recently discovered symphonies composed at the end of the 17th century. The younger brother's work is even more skillful than his elder brother's and highlights the player's skill, and we can also glimpse the depth of the Viennese musical world during the Fuchs period.
