Now Available in a Box Set! The Complete String Quartets of Bernhard Morik Bernhard Morik was born in Nuremberg to a father who was a bassoonist and violinist. He displayed signs of being a child prodigy, giving public performances as early as age 6. He studied violin under Louis Spohr and, at age 23, was appointed court kapellmeister and concertmaster at the Stuttgart Court Theater. He toured throughout Europe and gained great renown. He was also close friends with Theobald Böhm, the inventor of the Böhm-system flute, and even composed a flute concerto for him. Morric left behind a large body of violin works; among them, his eight string quartets are hailed as masterpieces straddling the transition between the Classical and Romantic periods. It is said that Op. 42 and Op. 44—two works composed during his stay in England—sent British audiences, including Queen Victoria, into a frenzy of excitement.
