The virtuoso Helmchen, freely manipulating a 19th century Bechstein, pursues Schumann's original sound! Following "Children's Scenes" and "Kreisleriana," Robert Schumann composed "8 Novelettes" (short stories) in 1838, which, with the exception of No. 8, are mostly small pieces, but together they form a large fantasy story, a masterpiece from the peak of his career. The "Dawn Song," composed a few months before his mental breakdown and published in his own hand, is said to express in music the various emotions that go through his mind at dawn. These Robert's works are joined by three pieces from "Musical Evenings," composed by Clara Schumann in 1835, when she and Robert are said to have been romantically involved. Helmchen uses 19th century Bechstein, which is close to the period in which they were active, and gives a wonderful performance with inspiring and varied expressions, allowing us to enjoy the original sound of these works and reminding us of their high musical richness.
