Corti is a virtuoso harpsichordist of the new era who is quietly making great strides! After a successful tour of Japan, the talented harpsichordist Francesco Corti is attracting attention in Japan. After his activities as a reliable bass player in Minkowski's and Savall's orchestras, in recent years he has been steadily increasing his presence in concertos with front-line ancient instrumental groups such as Zeffiro and Il Pomo d'Oro. In his solo recordings, he has also been a gifted interpreter of a wide range of repertoire, from the 17th century works of Louis Couperin to Haydn's sonatas and other works from the period when the harpsichord was at its peak of artistic maturity, and he has brought his considerable experience and musicality to face Handel's keyboard music head-on on an album on the ARCANA label. Handel as a virtuoso musician, who is said to have been as skilled as D. Scarlatti of the same age, known for his 555 keyboard sonatas, and later played the organ concerto himself during the interval of oratorio performances, wrote music that was in tune with the times with his mastery of the harpsichord, and his natural but meticulous playing. The performance is naturalistic and yet carefully attentive to every detail.This is not only a new and groundbreaking recording of the famous "Eight Suites" from 1720, which includes the well-loved stand-alone movements such as the variations known as "The Tuneful Blacksmith," but also an overture to an opera for which Handel's own keyboard score remains and an arrangement by Beybl of the same period, showing continuity with other fields of music. The engineer Ken Yoshida, who also works for ALPHA, has done an excellent job of capturing the natural beauty of the sound from the 18th century German model instruments. The liner notes, based on the latest research by the performers themselves and Handel scholar David Vickers (translation is included in the Japanese edition), are also very well done. Naxos Japan
