Description:
The Savoy region of France in the mid-18th century. Linda, a village girl, is deeply in love with Carlo, a poor painter (who is actually Viscount Silval, the son of the local lord, the Marquis de Boafrelly). To escape the Marquis de Boafrelly, who has ulterior motives toward her, Linda leaves home for Paris with the help of the local bishop. There, she is reunited with Carlo, who had followed her to Paris, and begins living with his support. However, when Linda’s father visits, he mistakenly believes she has become someone’s mistress and flies into a rage. Plagued by various misunderstandings, Linda loses her mind… *Linda di Chamonix*, known for the famous aria “The Light of My Heart.” Jessica Pratt will play the title role of Linda in this production. She is a renowned British-born, Australian soprano who won the prestigious Italian “Sciora d’Oro” (Golden Swallow) Opera Award in 2013. Utilizing her resonant voice and masterful coloratura technique, she brings the role of the innocent young girl to life with her magnificent singing. The cast is impeccable, with popular tenor Francesco Demuro as her co-star, Carlo, and a solid supporting cast of veterans including Michele Pertusi and Fabio Capitanucci. Michele Gamba’s conducting masterfully brings out the lyricism and drama of Donizetti’s music, and—against the backdrop of Cesare , set against a simple yet beautiful stage design, to portray this opera—which embodies both tragedy and comedy—with rich nuances.
