Description:
The "All-night Prayer" is the devotional music of the Orthodox Church. Although works by Rachmaninoff and Tchaikovsky are well known, Grechaninov's work, written in the 1910s, was intended for concert performance, unlike the previous two works written for liturgical use. Traditional Slavic chants are incorporated throughout, and the overall atmosphere is bright and divine. Grechaninov studied with Taneyev and Arensky at the Moscow Conservatory, and then transferred to the Petersburg Conservatory, where he studied composition with Rimsky-Korsakov. Since beginning his career as a composer, he has written numerous choral works, whose beautiful melodies and profound harmonies have become an important part of the contemporary choral repertoire. We hope you will enjoy the pious sounds spun by the Latvian Radio Choir under the direction of Sigvars Krava.
