Description:
During World War II, Lisa worked in a concentration camp in Auschwitz. After the war, she became a diplomat's wife and was on a ship to Brazil. There she meets a woman, "Marta," who has the appearance of a woman who was sent to the gas chambers in the concentration camps. Recalling the nightmarish life she lived at the time, Lisa gradually becomes mentally deranged and tormented by visions. The experiences of Posmuisi, the author of this story who barely survived the concentration camps, must have been of interest to Weinberg, who lost his entire family to persecution. With Shostakovich's advice, Weinberg wrote the opera in one year. After his death, ten years later, Weinberg's opera was performed in Moscow in concert form, and in 2010, it was finally staged for the first time in the world at the Bregenz Festival. This performance was recorded at the Graz Opera House in 2021. The opening of the opera, with its intense timpani, foreshadows a tumultuous story. Kaiser's expressive singing of Liza, whose sudden turn of events leads her to madness, is also noteworthy.Lothar Kurtig, music director of the Graz Opera House from 2020, is a conductor who specialized in contemporary music in the 1990s at the Kammerammer Ensemble Neue Musik Berlin. The whole is seamlessly organized.
