Tashiro, a fallen nobleman who calls himself Terek, guards the estate of Countess Maritza, who lives in the countryside. He is desperately trying to earn a dowry for his sister Lisa. One day, Maritza returns, saying that she has decided on an engagement, but in fact it is a fiction.
