The multifaceted charm of Bach, as depicted by the virtuoso organists Romina Lischka and Marnix de Catto. Marnix de Catto, a Belgian organist, is also active as a countertenor and conductor, and his repertoire ranges from ancient to contemporary music through his activities with the Pluto Ensemble and the Gesualdo Consort, among others. The idea for this joint recording was born from the fact that the last movement of Bach's Sonata BWV 1027, which the two played on the gamba and positif organ, is an adaptation of a trio for solo organ (BWV 1027a) that de Catt had practiced as a student, with one voice replaced by the gamba. Following that example of Bach's own arrangement, the attempt to bring out more of the polyphonic interest of these pieces by replacing one voice with a gamba from the Chorale and Trio Sonata for Organ has worked beautifully.The Gamba, too, was made more versatile and appealing by using different instruments for high and middle voices, in addition to the bass, depending on the work, and by varying the voices in charge.
