A History of Contemporary Organ Music by Master Organist Focleur, Featuring Vider-Atherton! A program presented by Belgian master organist Bernard Focleur, offering a panoramic view of organ works from the late 20th century to the present day, spanning 30 years. In addition to his own composition dedicated to the American choreographer Trisha Brown, who passed away in 2017, the program includes a piece by Betsy Jolas that responds to his earlier organ work “Musique de jour” (Music of the Day), as well as works by composers active in France such as Pascal Dusapin and Thomas Lacôte, as well as works by Toshio Hosokawa, inspired by contemplations of nature and the sound of the shō. A highlight is the participation of cello virtuoso Vider-Aston, who delivers crisp, incisive performances on two tracks. Tracks 6 and 7 were recorded during the 2020 lockdown. Foklore had originally planned to record the remaining works using the Joseph Stevans organ at the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels. However, on January 18, 2021, the organ was rendered unusable due to damage sustained during firefighting efforts following a fire in the hall, and the recording was consequently moved to Paris.
