Laura Neetzel, a Swedish composer and pianist. During her lifetime, it was difficult for women to make a name for themselves in the arts, and she, too, appears to have faced hardships—such as often using the pen name “N. Lago” when publishing her own works. Neetzel was born in Finland and moved to Stockholm at the age of one, but she remained proud of her Finnish heritage throughout her life. She is also known for her active involvement in social causes, including support for poor women, children, and workers. This album, featuring Marin Broman, Simon Crawford-Phillips, and singer Sabina Bisholt, focuses on Nätzel’s chamber music works and includes a carefully selected collection of art songs and piano pieces. All of these tracks have never been recorded before, making this a fitting release to introduce her works to the world. Naxos Japan
