A Collection of Songs Based on *The Child’s Magic Horn* An intriguing program featuring Etsuko Hirose *The Child’s Magic Horn* is a German folk song collected by Brentano and others. Mahler composed numerous songs based on these lyrics (24 in total, accounting for about half of his entire song cycle), which are scattered across the song cycles *Songs of Youth*, *The Child’s Magic Horn*, and *The Last Seven Songs*. This recording focuses primarily on songs that sing of love, nature, and other themes. Omo Bello, who studied voice at the Paris Conservatoire and later received guidance from Teresa Berganza, Thomas Quasthoff, and Grace Bumbry, specializes in Mozart and captivates with her clear, pure voice. She brings out the essence of the lyrics with sincerity. Pianist Guenebou is a highly accomplished artist who studied under Bruno Rigutto and Alfred Brendel. He is also active as a conductor and delivers a performance marked by a sense of grandeur. This recording features the final movement of Symphony No. 4, “Life in the Afterlife,” as well as the second movement of the same symphony, which contrasts sharply with the finale in character.
