Description:
German composer Adolf Jensen was a talented pianist who caught the attention of Franz Liszt. He was also active in Germany as a music teacher who had come from Russia, and as a composer, he was regarded as Schumann’s successor; he is known for his multifaceted career. While he is famous for over 100 art songs and several piano pieces with a sweet, salon-style atmosphere, this series allows you to enjoy a variety of Jensen’s piano works that go beyond mere sweetness. The “Piano Sonata in F-sharp minor,” included in this second volume, is a serious work reminiscent of Schumann, demonstrating that Jensen was not merely a composer of salon music. Volume 2 of “Carnival Scenes,” with its diverse musical styles and masterful use of virtuosic technique, is also a work well worth listening to. The performer, Eirling Ragnar Eriksen, served until recently as a professor in the Department of Performing Arts at the University of Stavanger, and is an authority on Nordic music. In addition to releasing three albums on TOCCATACLASSICS, he has served as the accompanist for Grieg and the Sinding Song Collection on the NAXOS label and was awarded the Grieg Prize in 2000.
