The opera *Cosi fan tutte*, directed by master director Jonathan Miller and conducted by Thomas Hengelbrock Performed by three male and three female soloists, this opera is a masterpiece from Mozart’s late period, distinguished by its technically demanding arias, ensembles ranging from duets to sextets, and the unique vocal combinations created by the six characters’ diverse voice types. Directed by the master Jonathan Miller (1934–2019), who passed away in November 2019, the production transposes the setting to the present day, featuring four young singers—all excellent stage performers—as the two pairs of lovers: Fiordiligi, Drabella—and their lovers, Ferrando and Guglielmo—with four young singers who also excel in stage acting. Additionally, the production features the seasoned and charismatic Thomas Allen as Don Alfonso, and Rebecca Evans’s spirited Despina added a dash of spice to this production, rich in a distinctly British theatrical tone. Thomas Hengelbrock, who made his name as a violinist with Annerose’s Vienna Concentus Musicus and later helped found and conduct the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra, and has steadily built his reputation. Here, he has incorporated period instruments for the brass and timpani in the Covent Garden orchestra, breathing new life into Mozart’s masterpiece opera. Naxos Japan
