The Kodály piece, performed as a duo with festival regular Barnabás Kéremény, captivates the listener from the very beginning with its intensity—the instruments resonating with a gritty, powerful sound—yet it is a deeply rewarding listen, filled with tension throughout and marked by the empathy Kéremény shows toward his homeland’s great composer. The Dvořák recording, featuring Alexander Ronkvich—another familiar face at the music festival—is a superb performance, showcasing the lyrical quality of the strongly Slavic melodies and the dynamic energy of the rhythms.
