Foot keys while playing the violin! The title of the album, OVNI (Objet Volant Non Identifie), is a French term for UFO (unidentified flying object), a practice based on a performance example that existed in the Baroque period. Despite the suggestive title, the album marks an unprecedented achievement in musical practice. Emmanuelle Dauban is a student of Mira Grodeanu, a master musician at Le Poème Armonique, and also studied with the brilliant Amandine Beyer of the Schola Cantorum Basel. As a result of her uncompromising pursuit of baroque violin playing techniques, she learned that there were even virtuoso players who played the bass part on the foot keys of the organ while playing the violin at the time, which she puts into practice herself on this album! The album also includes movements from Bach's sonatas along with masterpieces by the 17th century Austrian master Biber, whose irregular tuning (scordatura) produces a unique acoustic effect, demonstrating firsthand how this technique can produce performance results with a consistent musical aesthetic.The organ's foot keys usually play the lowest register (the origin of the word "pedal tone" for brass instruments), but the setting can be changed, and here, too, the highest alto register is layered, creating a performance effect beyond the impression that only the foot keys are used. The performance is more effective than the impression of using only foot keys. The sound of reproduction instruments based on Amati and Steiner's masterpieces, the serene organ foot pipes, and the moderate reverberation of the church hall combine to provide the listener with a rich, high-quality musical experience.
