Pandemic's new improvisation album "33 Pieces for Piano," or "Simple Music," is a collection of 33 pieces that Kancheli wrote in 2009 by extracting memorable phrases from film and stage music he wrote between 1965 and 2002 and composing them into pieces that last from under a minute to at most three minutes. or "simple music". As the title suggests, the score is written for piano, but the composer himself wrote, "These sketches will be freed from various instructions, including dynamics. Especially by players who are good at improvisation. However, it is not obligatory. You may play them however you wish." The preface is to the effect that "the music will be played in any way you like. Inspired by Cancelli's preface, Jenny Lynn, a specialist in contemporary music including Philip Glass, had developed the idea of performing this collection live with Guy Krusevec, a highly acclaimed improvisational accordionist and accordion virtuoso. But in the year 2020, the world will be a new kind of cocoa. In 2020, however, the world was hit by a pandemic of the new coronavirus, and the idea was abandoned.The two decided to record remotely and complete the album. This was a shift in thinking from improvisation, which is originally created in a live setting, to assembling it in a recording. The improvisations here are not of a nature to change the contours of the work, but rather to remind us of the beauty of these pieces. This is a very beautiful recording, born of the current era, and it is precisely because it is now that it is so poignant to the listener. Naxos Japan
