The Silesian String Quartet's highly acclaimed collection of Weinberg's string quartets. This collection includes three pieces: No. 1, completed in 1937 and revised in 1985, No. 16, composed in 1981, and No. 17, composed in 1986. Although No. 1 was written in his youth, Weinberg had already established his own style of expression, which is different from that of Shostakovich, with whom it is often compared (although it was revised more than 40 years later, the main idea of the piece has not changed, although the use of sounds has been elaborated). The magnificent No. 16 begins with a folk song-like melody. The short but plaintive and bright No. 17. These two pieces offer a glimpse of the style Weinberg reached in his later years. Naxos Japan
