Faust," a true drama by Ettinger with a splendid cast, is a masterpiece of modern French music by Gounod, who has transformed Goethe's "Faust" (Part I), a literary masterpiece that stands tall in the history of German literature, into a flowing and dramatic opera. This production, directed by McVicar, has been a staple of the Royal Opera since its premiere in 2004. The production is set in Paris in the late 19th century, at the time of the opera's composition, rather than 16th century Germany, and vividly explores the conflict and division between sensuality and spirituality in the opera, and also questions Marguerite's redemption at the end of the opera. This production was the talk of the town during the opera house's 2019 tour of Japan. In this video, Fabiano passionately sings Faust in the role of the external title role, Schrott is wild as the demon Mephistopheles, and Lungu shines with the loveliness of Marguerite in this wonderful performance. The supporting cast is almost the same as in the Japan tour, including Wilson as Marthe, Tegu as Valentin, and Alcantara as Vagner, who wowed the audience with his brilliant comedic performance.Ettinger's crisp baton unflaggingly portrays this tumultuous story, striking a perfect balance between lyricism and tension.
