The first "Rosary Sonata" by Retzboll, considered by many to be the best recording of the collection, was written by Biber, one of the most famous composers of the Austrian 17th century and a brilliant violinist, for the Archbishop of Salzburg, whom he served for a long time. The Sonatas on the Rosary, written by Biber for the Archbishop of Salzburg, to whom he served for many years, are fifteen sonatas with basso continuo, representing episodes in the life of the Virgin Mary, and showcasing the violin composing techniques of the time through fourteen different irregular tunings, with a long unaccompanied passacaglia at the end. This recording, released in 1997 by the same Austrian virtuoso Rezborg, has been highly acclaimed for its thoughtful interpretation of the various bass passages, as well as for Rezborg's own superb technique, which is nothing short of spectacular, and for its beauty in every detail. The recording has been out of press for a long time, and many people have been asking for its revival, but now it has been incorporated into the first release of the low-priced series, making it available again at a reasonable price.
