Niklas Sievelev is a Swedish composer. He has been an excellent pianist since his youth, but in recent years he has also been gaining more attention as a composer, and his works are increasingly heard. The album includes three orchestral works written in the 2010s. The opening work, Symphony No. 3, entitled "Spring," is a traditional sonata in form, with a lively rhythm that expresses the joy that wells up in the heart. The second movement, in which the various instruments sing the melody over and over, has a pastoral atmosphere. Five Pieces" is dedicated to the late wife of TOCCATA label head Martin Anderson. It expresses strong feelings of sadness and comfort. Symphony No. 4 is a development of the Passacaglia that Syverev composed for an assignment when he was a student in the 1980s. The theme, however, is cleverly concealed and not easy to discern. It is a slightly difficult piece that reveals Sievelev's wide range of compositional techniques. Naxos Japan
