Description:
Richard Panchev is an English composer. His choral works are internationally acclaimed as a continuation of the English religious music tradition. He began his career as choir director at Ripon Cathedral in North Yorkshire, where he received composition instruction from Benjamin Britten, and later studied with Simon Preston and Francis Greer at Christ Church College, Oxford University, where he graduated. He made his name with his 1996 composition, "Henry VIII's Oratory," commissioned by the Christ Church Choir of Oxford University to commemorate its 450th anniversary, which was also performed at the celebration of composer Peter Maxwell Davies's 80th birthday. 2015's this album features performances by his good friend Michael Waldron and the London Choral Sinfonia. Waldron gives full expression to Panchev's individuality, which, while steeped in tradition, is distinct from his other choral works. Naxos Japan
