Even after transitioning from a popular pianist to a conductor in the 1970s, Eschenbach has placed as much importance on nurturing and promoting the talents of young musicians as he has on building his own career. Christopher Park, who was born in Bamberg and is of German and Korean descent, is one such musician. Park is a prodigy who began receiving specialized music education at the university level at the age of 12. In 2014, he won the “Bernstein Prize” at the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival—an award that also launched the careers of Lang Lang and Lisa Batiashvili. During the 2016–2017 season, he was selected as one of the “Rising Stars” by the European Concert Hall Organisation (ECHO). He is a pianist who is attracting significant attention. He has already recorded several albums, including two releases on the OEHMS label featuring works primarily by Schumann. These have also been highly acclaimed. In this performance, he collaborates with Eschenbach on Liszt’s arrangement of the “Wanderer Fantasy,” delivering a vibrant performance with a mature interpretation that offers a glimpse into their mutual trust. His thoughtfully crafted interpretations of Schubert and Brahms are also simply breathtaking. Naxos Japan
