This album features a collaboration between French soprano Véronique Jans—who has specialized in Baroque repertoire since her debut and has recently garnered high acclaim for her interpretations of modern works—and the ensemble I Giardini, led by the up-and-coming Bordeaux-born violinist Shuichi Okada. Drawing from the glamorous repertoire of the Belle Époque, this intriguing selection is organized into four themes exploring the relationship between the soul and the various facets of “night.” With her uniquely rich expressiveness, Jans delves deep into the world of each piece. It’s also a delight to hear Édith Piaf’s classic “La Vie en Rose.” The chamber ensemble arrangements, by Dratovitski—director of the Center for Romantic French Music (PALAZZETTOBRUZANE)—are imbued with a deep understanding and a profound love for the works.
