Description:
The krummhorn (German/Italian: stort, French: tourneboux, mainly in the lower register), which dominated the Renaissance period, is a two-reed woodwind instrument with a curved shape like the letter "J. Because of its loud sound, it was suitable for playing dances in the open air. This album features the krummhorn, the bombarde (shawm), which is also a two-reed instrument, and the sintagma amici, an ensemble that handles the recorder. The album features up to eight krummhorns and other instruments (even the label's president, musicologist Jérôme Lejeune, plays a krummhorn), and includes many small Renaissance pieces, such as the Danserie (a collection of dances) edited by Susart, and is one of Ricercar's most enjoyable and successful albums. This is a very enjoyable big hit album of Ricercar. (C)RS
