[An Exciting New Interpretation of Verdi’s *La Traviata* by Benjamin Lazare, the Renowned Director of Classical Theater] A film adaptation of a stage production based on Verdi’s opera *La Traviata*, reimagined by director Benjamin Lazar—known for his productions of Molière’s plays—along with music director Florent Hubert and popular Comédie-Française actress Judith Schmura. A deeply decadent atmosphere pervades the entire production, and many scenes are delivered in French. The music—arrangements of Verdi’s original score—is performed by an ensemble of musicians who also serve as actors on stage, accompanied by a Pleyel piano, while the singing remains in the original Italian. The production incorporates a significant amount of theatrical elements, occasionally eliciting laughter from the audience. A highlight is the magnificent soprano voice of Judith Schmurla—who reportedly originally aspired to be a musician—which is every bit as impressive as that of the other opera singers in the cast; however, her unadorned, unpretentious singing style, distinct from that of a bel canto singer, evokes the transience of Violetta’s fate and deeply moves the listener.
