Description:
John Butt's dramatic oratorio "Samson," Handel's greatest oratorio, was conceived around 1739 and completed in 1742, almost immediately after the premiere of "Messiah. It is a dramatic oratorio based on the dramatic poem "Samson the Fighter" by the English Renaissance poet John Milton, with text by Newborough Hamilton, and was first performed in London in 1743 to great acclaim. John Batt, who has actively taken up Handel's works, used the 1743 premiere of Hans-Dieter Clausen's newly revised edition published by Bärenreiter. The soprano part of the chorus is sung by a boy soprano, and the sound of Handel's time is reproduced in accordance with the latest research, while the powerful expression of the chorus fully demonstrates the charm of the work.
