Description:
Alexei Stanchinsky was a Russian composer. He studied under Taneyev and Zilyayev at the Moscow Conservatory, where his outstanding talent was highly regarded; however, following his father’s death, his health began to decline, and his enthusiasm for composition waned. As a result, when he passed away at the young age of 26, he left behind only a limited number of piano pieces. These works were never published and were forgotten after the composer’s death, but thanks to his classmates, who lamented his untimely passing, they were gradually published beginning in the 1940s and finally came to be widely recognized. These are all magnificent works featuring melodies in unique modes, intricate counterpoint, and chromatic techniques; at times, they even evoke the satirical style of Prokofiev, making for a truly rewarding listening experience. This album features performances by Moscow-born pianist Solovieva and includes all of Stanchinsky’s works composed by 1910. It is a valuable recording that includes several world premiere recordings.
