Description:

[The First Collaboration Between the Acclaimed Emelyanichev and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra!] Born in Russia in 1988, Emelyanichev is a fortepiano player who won France’s Choc Award for his recording *Mozart: Piano Sonatas* (APARTE). He also garnered significant acclaim as the continuo player on Theodor Currentzis’s acclaimed recording of *Mozart: The Marriage of Figaro* and *Così fan tutte* (SONY), both conducted by Theodor Currentzis, which garnered significant attention. He also made his conducting debut at the age of 12. He is adept at both modern and period performance styles, and his recording *In War and Peace* (ERATO), a collaboration with Didonato, won the Gramophone Award in the Recital category. In addition to serving as music director of the period ensemble *Il Pomodoro*, he has appeared as a guest conductor with numerous orchestras. He is set to take up the position of principal conductor of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra beginning in the 2019–20 season. Emelyanichev’s first recording with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra is now available on LINN RECORDS. True to Emelyanichev’s strong preference for German music, the program features Schubert’s “Great” Symphony. Although the orchestra uses modern instruments, it incorporates natural trumpets, natural horns, and period-style timpani. The recording process was carried out in Emelyanichev’s characteristic style from the very beginning—including having the entire ensemble review the playback together—resulting in a performance with brisk tempos and a clear, transparent sound that is extremely pleasing to the ear. As Emelyanichev himself states, “I want listeners to perceive this recording as modern and relevant to our times (rather than a performance imitating bygone eras),” this album conveys the unwavering determination of a new generation.
