Description:
Moondog was born in Kansas and played the drums from an early age. He was also influenced by nightclub jazz and Native American music. He spent most of his life on the streets, and was nicknamed the "Viking of Sixth Avenue" for his horned helmet and the places where he worked. In his later years, he moved to Germany, where he performed throughout Europe, until his death in Munster, Germany. He also invented his own percussion instruments, one of which is the "trimba. It is made of wood assembled in a triangular shape, to which various percussion instruments such as cymbals are attached, and is played in combination with maracas and claves.Lakatos, who plays the trimba on this album, is a percussionist who received his first trimba from Moondog himself and was taught how to make it. Pianist Ponti was also a friend of Moondog's, and many of the unpublished works on this album were written for her. As specialists in Moondog's works, the two have long been involved in the "Piano Trimba" project, in which they perform his works as a duo, and this album is a monument to that work. The works on this album are all moderately radical, beautiful, and very easy to listen to. Naxos Japan
