Description:
Christian Tetzlaff, one of today’s greatest violinists, and Robin Ticciati, “the most exciting conductor.” This highly anticipated recording features these two standout artists performing Beethoven’s and Sibelius’s violin concertos! Since the 2011 release of *Schumann and Mendelssohn: Violin Concertos*, Tetlav has released numerous acclaimed performances of works by J.S. Bach, Brahms, and others on the ONDINE label; however, his only Beethoven recording to date has been the 2017 *Triple Concerto*. This recording of the “Violin Concerto”—Tetzlaff’s third, following collaborations with Gielen and Zinman—is a highly anticipated, major release in the run-up to the “Beethoven Year” of 2020. Tetsuraf, who is particular about his cadenzas, appears to have used an arrangement from the Piano Concerto in D major (the version featuring timpani) for the first movement, while employing his own original cadenzas for the second and third movements. In the accompanying Sibelius recording as well, Tetzlaff displays outstanding technique and musicality, presenting listeners with new facets of both works—notably through a breathtakingly fast tempo and unique interpretation in the final movement. Accompanying him is Ticciati, who was appointed Principal Conductor of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra at the age of 26 in the 2009–10 season and became Music Director of the Glyndebourne Festival in 2014. He has been the Music Director of the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin (DSO) since the 2017–18 season and is a highly acclaimed rising star. On this recording as well, he leads this prestigious orchestra in direct dialogue with Tetzlaff, and together they weave a meticulously crafted musical tapestry. Naxos Japan
