The Ghost" is one of Norwegian playwright Ibsen's masterpieces. This ballet tells the story of the widow of Captain Alving, a prominent local figure, her son Osval, and her servant Regine, and what happens to them in the house where they live. It is an ambitious attempt to express in ballet, rather than in words, the refracted story of three people: Osval, who had left home in search of an independent path (to escape reality); Mrs. Alving, who at one point abandoned her husband to run to Pastor Mandels; and Reginae, who does not know her own origins. The flow of the dance, in which the dance is gentle while the secret is hidden and becomes more intense as the secret is revealed, is easily understood by those who do not know the story, and the images projected in the background also help the story progress. The dance by veteran dancer Yoshifumi Inao, who plays Regine's stepfather Engstrand, is also a sight to behold. Naxos Japan
