England in the 17th century, during the Puritan Revolution. Elvira, who is in love with Arturo, a royalist knight, is forced to marry Riccardo, a puritan, at her father's insistence. However, with the help of her uncle Giorgio, she is finally allowed to marry Arturo, but Arturo, out of a sense of duty, attempts to rescue the king's queen, and when Elvira learns of this, she mistakenly believes that her beloved has betrayed her... Bellini's opera "The Puritan," which premiered in Paris in 1835. The Puritans" was premiered in Paris in 1835. It is a masterpiece opera filled with the dignified beauty of Bellini, who broke away from the influence of Rossini, who dominated the music world at that time, and pioneered the music of the Italian Romantic school. The four main characters, including Elvira, who sing the long "mad scene," all play important roles, and each singer's ability and performance are tested not only in the arias but also in the ensemble, making this work known as a difficult one to perform.This is the third production of the Staatsoper Stuttgart's Bellini series following "Norma" and "The Sleepwalker," in which the famous directorial duo Yossi Wieler and Sergio Morabito, as well as Anna Fiebrock, in charge of stage design and costumes, teamed up to create a unique production that uses an original script and plot, a different historical setting, and a theatrical approach that reveals the unconscious psychology of the characters.
