Czerny-Stephanska's specialty, Chopin, is combined with other Polish works. Czerny-Stefanska studied under Cortot and won the 4th Chopin Competition in 1949 with Béla Davidowicz. Although she was sought after as a Chopin specialist and performed Chopin all over the world, she actually had a wide repertoire and was particularly active in featuring composers from her native Poland. The Polonaise from Chopin's "Chopin" is included here, and the virtuosity of her dynamic playing combined with her delicate phrasing is a joy to behold. The live recordings have been carefully remastered from the original SWR tapes, and are not only easy to listen to, but also very enjoyable. The carefully remastered tapes from the original SWR tapes are not only easy to listen to, but also allow the listener to enjoy her virtuosity in a pleasing sound that brings the instruments to the forefront.
