Bach is known not only for his arrangements of works by Vivaldi and Marcello, but also for reusing his own compositions in various forms. One particularly noteworthy example is his arrangement of Sonata No. 1 for viola da gamba and keyboard for two flutes and basso continuo—and it was this arrangement that inspired the concept for this album. Walter van Hauwe and Tripla Concordia produced this album centered primarily on their own arrangements—created in collaboration with the renowned recorder virtuoso Kees Bucke, using the same techniques as Bach, into arrangements for two flutes (recorders) and basso continuo. The album also includes a partita arranged by lute player Toyohiko Sato and Van Hauwe, as well as an organ sonata arranged by the recorder trio “Sour Cream”—comprising Van Hauwe, Bucke, and the late Frans Brüggen.
