A collection of art songs by Sol, Gérard, and Rodrigo—three Spanish-born composers. Gérard was from Catalonia. He studied under Schoenberg in Vienna and Berlin; after briefly returning to Spain, he later moved to England, where he remained until his death. His “Cantares,” which incorporate folk music, possess a modern atmosphere while reflecting passionate emotions. The songs by Sol and Rodrigo make full use of the guitar’s distinctive qualities; they are beautiful songs with a deeply nostalgic atmosphere that touch the heart.
