Description:
Sol is known as the Beethoven of guitars for his achievements in dramatically enhancing the artistry and expressiveness of his solo guitar compositions. Although born in Barcelona, he was at the mercy of history and spent the latter half of his life outside of the country, mainly in France. The "Magic Flute" Variations, today considered Sol's masterpiece, is based on "how beautiful the sound" of Monostatos and his men floating to the sound of Papageno's bell. The composition is composed around three large pieces, "Andante Largo," dedicated to his wife, whose character is not well known, and "Gran Solo," interspersed with smaller pieces. American-born William Carter is a founding member of the Palladian Ensemble and a baroque guitar virtuoso who has participated in many period ensembles, including the Ancient Chamber Orchestra.
