Scottish mezzo Karen Cargill sings a collection of songs by Mr. and Mrs. Mahler ■ This collection combines songs by the great 19th century Viennese composer Gustav Mahler and his wife, Alma Maria Mahler. Alma Mahler studied composition with Zemlinsky and now has more than a dozen songs left to her. Five of these songs are included in this collection, including "I Wander Beneath the Flowers," which was used in the movie "Mahler: An Adagio for You. And from Gustav Mahler's vast collection of songs, he combines "The Rückert Songs," "Songs of a Wandering Young Man," and "Original Light," which is sung in the fourth movement of Symphony No. 2, "Resurrection. ■ Making her solo recital recording debut on this album is Scottish mezzo-soprano Karen Cargill, winner of the 2002 Kathleen Ferrier Prize and a regular performer at the BBC Proms and the Edinburgh International Music Festival.In 2013 he was appointed Associate Artist with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, where he is also the soloist in the Robin Titiati swing "Berlioz: Lieder "Summer Nights"". Simon Lepper is Cargill's recital partner and has accompanied numerous recordings of songs by C.W. Orr, Ronald Cope (Stone Records), Debussy (Deux-Elles), and R. Strauss (Champs Hill Records).
