The “Berklee Ensemble,” named after the British composer Berklee and his son, celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2018. The ensemble, which has been introducing a steady stream of contemporary works, is currently focusing on the music of Michael Berklee, the son whose 70th birthday was celebrated in 2018. Born in 1948, Michael is known not only for studying piano and voice at the Royal Academy of Music but also for performing with the rock band “Seeds of Discord,” where he demonstrated his unique talent. As a composer, he has released numerous works, and the Berklee Ensemble has actively performed and recorded Michael’s chamber music pieces since its inception. This album features a lineup of captivating works, including the deeply moving “Clarinet Quintet,” “Winter Fragments” with vocal accompaniment, and “SEVEN,” which captivates with its sharp, incisive approach.
