Composed in 1998, this two-act opera by Mark Adamo is based on Olcott's masterpiece "The Tale of Young Sisters," and focuses on the final episodes of the long original story that painstakingly describes the daily lives of the unique sisters. The premiere at the Houston Grand Opera was a great success, and the work was subsequently performed again in the U.S. and Mexico, bringing Adamo's own fame to the stage. The music is quite easy to listen to, and Brian Large's beautiful visuals give the work a contemporary yet familiar feel. The very popular mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato as Meg is also noteworthy.
