Description:

Patricia Petibon sings the heroine "Junia" in the hit role of "Lucio Silla"! Lucio Silla, the dictator of Rome, falls in love with Junia, the daughter-in-law of his political enemy, the exiled senator Cecilio, but Junia strongly refuses him. Cecilio secretly returns to Rome and is joyfully reunited with Junia. The story continues with Cecilia, Cilla's sister, and Chinna, his political rival. In the end, Cecilio allows the lovers to marry, pardons all his political enemies, and abdicates the throne... Mozart was less than 17 years old when he composed this opera seria in Milan in December 1772. Yet this work already contains many of the elements that would become the forerunners of many of Mozart's later operatic masterpieces. This work can be called an "opera seria," developed from the framework of the Baroque period into a classical work. It shows that Mozart had already mastered the art of leaping freely from the traditional operatic categories of the past and deconstructing them in his own medicine. The role of Lucio Silla is played by tenor Kurt Strait, a highly acclaimed Mozart singer, and soprano Patricia Petitbon has sung the role of Junia on numerous occasions. Cecilio is passionately sung by mezzo-soprano Silvia Toro Santa Fe. Stage director Klaus Guth has created an intriguing blend of classical setting and new experimentation, and virtuoso Ivor Bolton brings the entire opera to life. Naxos Japan
