A Clockwork Orange, a futuristic novel that Kubrick adapted for the screen. Burgess, the author of the original novel, was also a wonderfully gifted composer. Burgess had a love of music from childhood and worked as an arranger for a dance band in the army during World War II. The 24 Preludes and Fugues, written to celebrate the 300th anniversary of J.S. Bach's birth, are called "The Bad-Tempered", a corruption of "Well-Tempered".
