Delivered after a five-year hiatus, this work is an entirely duo album, shaped by jazz alto saxophonist Akane Ezawa together with Brooklyn-born pianist David Bryant. Inspired by the works of Austrian poet Rilke, the album includes nine tracks, including the title song "I Still Don't Know," composed for this duo, as well as original compositions by Ezawa and Bryant, and jazz standards. The two have been performing as a duo for several years, and the music cultivated through their long dialogue is impressive, including "Photograph," a ballad from their early repertoire, and "How Deep Is the Ocean," which gradually changes like a shifting landscape through collective improvisation. Leaving the hustle and bustle behind, the duo format allows them to enjoy quiet conversation alone in a room, vividly bringing out their breathing and the reverberations of their sound.Rooted in jazz tradition, the charm of these two artists meticulously weaving their own "song" is condensed within this minimal ensemble. Sound engineering was handled by Niraj Kajanchi, who captured the duo's performance authentically and with its fresh resonance, guiding the work to completion. Includes liner notes by Ezawa himself.
