Their 2024 album *Romance* received universal acclaim worldwide, earning perfect scores from publications such as *The Guardian*, *NME*, and *Rolling Stone UK*, and topped the charts in the UK, Ireland, and Scotland, the Netherlands, and earned two nominations at the 67th Grammy Awards that same year. It’s also still fresh in our memories that their Japan tour in support of the album was a huge success. As with the previous album, “DopamineChamber” was produced by James Ford (Arctic Monkeys, Gorillaz, Depeche Mode). This album follows *Romance*, released in 2024 and certified platinum in the UK, and marks a decisive departure from the band’s early guitar-driven sound, moving toward a colder, stranger, and more artificial sound. “Marianne,” a dazzling and exhilarating introduction to the album’s world, draws some inspiration from the 2024 Netflix eight-episode thriller miniseries *Ripley*, based on Patricia Highsmith’s *The Talented Mr. Ripley*. This song explores themes of escapism and hedonism, serving as a song of temptation that leads toward oblivion—or perhaps an escape from it. Enveloped in a glittering arrangement, Greer Chatten sings: “You should come here and spend the year / Come with me / I can make you disappear.” Yet beneath those seductive lyrics lies a heavier question: If living with full awareness of one’s own destruction were the only choice, to what extent would a person willingly surrender their imagination? *DopamineChamber* emerges like a constellation rising beyond the swirling breath of smog. It is a work in which powerful ballads and anthemic melodies sparkle amidst the thick haze. In a world teetering on the brink of collapse, this album asks how pleasure transforms in the midst of crisis—and what is revealed when we pursue it.
