UK band traversing from 80's punk to no wave The latest album by Dry Cleaning in 2026! Dry Cleaning, a band in the Spoken Word lineage consisting of Florence Shaw (vo), Tom Dowds (g), Nick Buxton (ds), and Lewis Maynard (b), has released their third album "Secret Love" on the 4AD label. Produced by Kate Le Bon, who also produced the Horsegirls' album "Phonetics On and On," the album also features Alan Duggan and Daniel Fox of the Gila Band. With "Secret Love," a work of expression of dry cleaning born of a deep friendship between the members, the band has placed itself in the avant-garde of rock, using the paranoid air of the Reagan era, reflected by the American punk and hardcore of the early 80s, as a catalyst, and Keith Richards The band blends austere, dry guitar riffs reminiscent of Keith Richards, stoner rock, dystopian decadence, playful no-wave, and pastoral fingerpicking. Florence's recitative vocals, in close response to her bandmates' soundscapes, place herself in a spoken word lineage that stretches from Laurie Anderson to Sue Tompkins of Life Without Buildings. The follow-up to Stumpwork, Secret Love, began in a rehearsal space in Peckham, where all four members wrote, performed, and responded to each other in the same room--for Dry Cleaning, music and lyrics are inseparable, an organic whole. Secret Love" evolved from an intense session at Jeff Tweedy's studio The Loft in Chicago to an explosive session at Sonic Studios in Dublin with Alan Duggan and Daniel Fox of the Gila Band, taking full advantage of the acoustic properties of each space. The sound of each space has evolved while taking full advantage of its acoustical characteristics.Finally, the project was completed with Kate Le Bon at Black Box in the Loire Valley. After interviewing several potential producers, the band chose Kate Le Bon. She is an acclaimed solo artist who has also worked with artists such as Deerhunter, Devendra Banhart, Wilco, and Horsegirls. The reason for this was her outspoken positivity and openness. Kate states, "I've been in the same room with them, and I've been in the same room with them. When I was in the same room with them and heard the life and vibrancy that flowed through the place, I knew it was truly a unique expression."
