Description:

New York's genius and heretic who has been passed down as a legend. The legendary New York genius and heretic, will be revived in the present day with a live performance that includes previously unreleased material that formed the basis of his masterpiece, "World Of Echo"! CD and LP will be released simultaneously in different specifications! Experimental, disco, garage, pop, folk... Arthur Russell, a genius and heretic who ran the gamut of left field, was a legend in the New York underground scene in the 1970s and 1980s, and after his death from AIDS in 1992, his outstanding talent was once again in the limelight. His avant-garde and experimental works can be found on numerous reissues and compilations, as well as unreleased recordings, and his musicality, and even his personality itself, continue to influence a wide range of media, from books to films. This album is no exception, and includes previously unreleased material as well as material that was released exclusively on cassette and digital formats in 2020. And in that these are the two solo live performances that formed the basis of Arthur Russell's eponymous masterpiece, "World Of Echo," it is a must-listen for those seeking to further their understanding of his aesthetic. Conceived and produced by New York experimental music maestro Phil Niblock, also known as a pioneer of minimalist drone music, along with Arthur Russell, and recorded at Experimental Intermedia (a New York-based avant-garde music foundation that Phil directs), World Of Echo is a must-hear for those seeking to further their understanding of his aesthetic. The album contains two unedited solo performances Arthur gave in 1984 titled "SKETCHES FOR WORLD OF ECHO" and in 1985 titled "OPEN VOCAL PHRASES WHERE SONGS COME IN AND OUT". These two performance recordings form the basis for World of Echo, his first full-length solo work of his life, released in 1986 and the definitive work of his reputation as a contemporary musician. World of Echo", his first full-length solo work in 1986, and a defining moment in his reputation as a contemporary musician. This is the first live album to include previously unreleased material, and will be released on 2 CDs and 2 LPs, each with different content, titles and artwork. 2 CDs will include the first CD release of "SKETCHES FOR WORLD OF ECHO" and the first release of "OPEN VOCAL PHRASES WHERE SONGS COME IN AND OUT", including the previously unreleased title track "That's The Very Reason" and "Too Early To Tell". The 2LP set includes all performances from OPEN VOCAL PHRASES WHERE SONGS COME IN AND OUT, including the title track "That's The Very Reason" and "Too Early To Tell". VOCAL PHRASES WHERE SONGS COME IN AND OUT" are included on Side 1 through Side 3, and Side 4 features "Changing Forest" and "Sunlit Water" from the "SKETCHES FOR WORLD OF ECHO" performance.
