Formed in Fukuoka, miu mau is an art pop trio featuring synth/vocals, guitar, and drums. They have built a unique musical world, weaving elements of new wave and post-punk into their sophisticated pop sound while also incorporating the indie/avant-pop lineage of acts like Stereolab, Broadcast, and Buffalo Daughter. Their new cassette EP, 'Motif21', marks their first physical release since 2017's album 'Drawing'. It features the title track "Motif 21" (released for streaming in 2025), where complex rhythms, explosive guitar, and Hammond organ phrases resonate with enhanced solidity and richness, alongside the new track "Furidashi", created entirely remotely through repeated transformations. Side B features two remixes of "Furidashi" by London-based The Leaf Library/Roland Prague, vividly bringing out the track's contrasting dual facets: its new wave pop side and its dreamy, shoegaze-like side.
