Go-jazzy, sexy '80s studio pop" - Teen Daze, winner of a Canadian Grammy for their last album Stereogum, is back with their first vocal album in a long time! With singer/songwriter Andy Shauf on drums and LA jazz phenom Sam Wilkes on bass, Teen Daze's sound has undergone a major transformation. Their previous album, "Interior," which won the Electronic Album of the year at the JUNO Awards, Canada's version of the Grammy Awards, explored neon-lit house music, but this new album is a pleasant and tasteful vocal album that also incorporates jazz and pop elements. The result is a vocal album that is both pleasant and tasteful. The opening track, "Back yard," with Andy Shauf on drums and LA jazz heavyweight Sam Wilkes on bass, is a mellow groover that evokes 1970s Laurel Canyon, but with modern embellishments throughout.Nothing's gonna change my love" is a two-and-a-half minute slow jazz-pop style song, perhaps inspired by the great Sade, or perhaps the feeling one gets when leaving downtown LA at 2 am. The lyrics tell a story of love that challenges the unpredictability of life. On "Neighbourhood," featuring Andy Shauf on drums and Sam Wilkes on bass, Teen Daze takes us on a leisurely tour of a quiet neighborhood with a jazz-pop infused sound. As the sun sets on the pleasant tree-lined streets, a more bizarre and surreal environment emerges. Of this long-awaited album, the artist himself states, "'Elegant Rhythms' is the first album that I've released in a long time. Elegant Rhythms was four years in the making. I wrote and released a lot of other songs during that time, but I've been working on this album for a long time. I put my heart and soul into this record. Every song on the album contains more vulnerability than ever before.These songs were my own way of processing the big life moments I've experienced over the past four years, including having a family, pregnancy loss, dealing with generational trauma, and facing questions about my life purpose as I approach 40. This is my most personal album to date."
