Bullion is Nathan Jenkins, an enduring cult figure in electronic music, a producer and songwriter who connects artists, genres, and UK subcultures. His work ranges from Carly Rae Jepsen, Ben Howard, Nilufer Yanya, and Avalon Emerson's breakthrough album "& The Charm" to records by Westerman and Joviale. This creative red thread is tied together on this new album, "Affection", which is released to the surprise of Bullion.Affection began when Nathan returned to London in 2018 from Lisbon, where he had moved. By nature a reluctant and faltering character by his own admission, Nathan was liberated by being in a place where he had no personal history. Back home, Nathan began to think more about his place in the world and to seek affection instead of cynicism; Bullion's music has always been difficult to characterize and completely unique. In "Affection," it is a rich pleasure to hear this uncompromising approach reinforced, in part, by the softening. The album raises questions out loud about the meaning of intimacy in relation to others and self. Masculinity and other contemporary concerns, as seen in World Train's "Hat Stand and Clock," are underscored by Old World charm. Influences range from morning swims to adolescent fears to a collection of poems written by his father when he was young.'Affection' ultimately asks how we understand people, but it also tries to make us at least a little less concerned about what they think by making us more vulnerable.
