Deliberately composed of instrumental hip-hop tracks, this referential yet modern release is both a back-to-basics beat tape as well as the minimalist sound he has been creating since his breakthrough album One/Three, released on Ghostly International in 2001! is a multi-style update of the minimalist sound he has created since his breakthrough album One/Three, released on Ghostly International in 2001.The Michigan native responds with a satisfying batch from the lab, applying what he knows now to the sonic archetypes that propelled him onto the scene more than two decades ago. Always interested in the space between beats, Mullinix here shapes hissing silence from drum and bass intros, Marshall Arts VHS tapes, early electro-acoustic compositions, and recent film and library music The soundtrack is a collection of cartoons piled on the floor of the studio. Titled Super-Cassette, after the stacks of comic books and blank tapes on the studio floor, the album is a playful reaffirmation of Tadd's loose and inventive superpowers as Dabrye. Since the release of Three/Three, the trilogy's conclusion featuring MCs such as Killah and Danny Brown, along with a retrospective box set, Tadd has mostly been a stay-at-home dad, and has been more interested in studio work and other aliases ( JTC, Charles Manier), preferring to perform live.He began sampling from tapes he had made in high school, returning to old techniques, spinning reels backwards, bouncing Casio SK-1s, delay pedals, and tracker software, and changing the pitch. Like a muscle memory enhanced by knowledge and experience, Tadd uses the cassette as an instrument. At first glance, the music is looped music, but over time, the sensation becomes more linear.
